'Walking Dead' Boss Shades 'Game of Thrones' Over Spoilers

Apart from an army of undead and a few fake-out deaths, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones have little in common beyond vast source material fans are eager to see adapted. That said, Game of Thrones ran out of road early enough that author George R.R. Martin gifted a few unpublished spoilers to HBO, something Dead creator Robert Kirkman says he would never do for AMC.

A full profile with Rolling Stone saw Kirkman on a variety of topics, from Cinemax’s Outcast to that inescapably controversial Walking Dead finale, as well his potential endgame for the comic upon which AMC’s series is based. The books have a significant lead over their adaptation, currently at 155 issues (the Season 6 finale roughly adapted issue #100), though Kirkman vehemently opposes the TV pace dictating his material.

Something Kirkman apparently isn’t too sympathetic toward Martin over:

I would never do that. That’s the one thing I’m disappointed in George R.R. Martin for doing. He should have just been like, Fuck you. You make it up now, I’ll get to mine when I’m ready.

Granted, the pace of Walking Dead comics offers significantly more material to stretch out, while Martin only reportedly gave out three significant book spoilers, apart from more obvious turns fans had already put together. It wasn’t too long ago that the Song of Ice and Fire creator touted his own comfortable lead over the show, but as the still-unscheduled Winds of Winter proves, there’s no rushing inspiration.

Does Kirkman have the high ground over Game of Thrones? Should The Walking Dead ever catch up to its source material, would AMC try to change the comic author’s tune?
