Thor: Ragnarok is going to delve a bit into Greg Pak’s Planet Hulk storyline — which features Hulk, having been shot into space to protect the world from his green wrath, making a name for himself as a gladiator on a planet at the far reaches of the galaxy. The choice to combine those two iconic plotlines may have sounded odd at first, but, from the looks of things, it seems to have worked out pretty seamlessly. And, sure, we have Cap and the Winter Soldier, Rhodey and Iron Man, but, honestly, isn’t Thor and Hulk the team-up we’ve all been waiting for?

Hulk has been an integral part of the MCU, but in most recent installments has been more of a supporting character. Thor: Ragnarok is planned to kick off a kind of Hulk trilogy, starting with his teamup with Thor to save the universe, and Kevin Feige recently explained to ScreenRant how it all happened:

When we were thinking about what other Marvel players to bring into Thor’s story, which was important to us, it was important to Chris [Hemsworth], he had looked and seen Captain America get Black Widow and Iron Man, and all of these other players and he goes, ‘Mate, who’s coming into my movies?’ And as we were thinking about that, number one, with Thor, more so than any of the other players, he’s got an amazing cast of characters in his books ... In terms of other Marvel characters we kept thinking about how fun it would be if we took our two most heroic, most powerful characters, Thor and Hulk. Pit them against each other and but also play the humor and the fish out of water humor between Thor and Banner. And that lead us to, maybe that plane at the end of Ultron did go into space, and maybe this is a chance to see Gladiator Hulk.

At the end of Age of Ultron when we see a Quinjet spirit Bruce Banner away, that wasn’t originally planned to introduce the Planet Hulk storyline, but somehow it worked out perfectly with what Marvel wanted to do with Ragnarok. And the possibility of seeing iconic Thor comics characters Balder and Beta Ray Bill in future installments of either the new Hulk movies or the next few Thor movies is also exciting (there’s apparently an Easter egg for the latter in Thor: Ragnarok).

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3.
