If you have been wondering why you can't buy alcohol on Sundays, Christmas, and New Year's Day the answer goes back almost 100 years.

In a NewsWest 9 story, the Christmas Day rule came in 1967 in a ruling which also included New Year's Day and Thanksgiving also.

If the holidays fall on a Sunday then the ban will roll over to Monday meaning you will have to go two days without liquor.

Liquor sale bans date back to the days of prohibition in the 1920's, and when prohibition was lifted in 1933, Texas lawmakers put the Sunday rule in place in 1935.

But Texas is not the only state with this rule, about half of the country bans liquor sales on Christmas Day.
