Amy Schumer Sets Netflix Special in Hopes of ‘Stranger Things 2’ Audition
We’ve seen Amy Schumer take on her first HBO comedy special, and with Netflix making a monstrous purge into the genre, it was only a matter of time Schumer would make her next debut. So it is, that the Inside Amy Schumer star books a March premiere for a new standup special, and all in service of a Stranger Things Season 2 gig.
Now, before you overreact, Netflix has has confirmed that Schumer shot an all-new stand-up special in November at the Denver, Colorado’s Bellco Theater, the completed version of which will stream on Tuesday, March 7. Schumer herself added a personal motivation for getting in good with Netflix:
Very happy to be a part of the Netflix family for this special. Maybe now they will look at my “Stranger Things” audition tape to play the demogorgon for Season 2.
While Netflix itself stated, less jokingly:
As a comedian, actress, writer, director, producer and best-selling author, Amy Schumer is a boundless threat and a one-of-a-kind talent. We couldn’t be more excited that she’s making Netflix her home for her next stand-up comedy special.
Netlfix has made a tremendous push into comedy specials in recent years, between a three-part showcase with Dave Chappelle, and similar high-profile comedy deals for Chris Rock, Joe Rogan, Dana Carvey, Michael Che, Gabriel Iglesias, Reggie Watts and Colin Quinn (directed by Jerry Seinfeld).
We’ll likely have a trailer sometime in February to early March, so stay tuned for the latest.
