Today's blog is not so much about being a parent as it is about being a child. Or a grandchild. The way you are a child to your parents, though, can be an example to your children.

Being teachers allows my husband and me the opportunity to stay home with our kids during the summer and the holidays. We've often commented on how blessed we are that we get to spend so much time together as a family. It truly is wonderful. Well, except for one thing... The mess.

This past weekend we had a little visitor in our lives. The Oldest found a teeny, tiny, almost featherless baby bird in our backyard. He must have fallen from his nest. She saved him from certain death at the paws of one of our dogs. Her dad didn't want her to bring it in, but I convinced him otherwise.

Like a lot of other people on Monday, I spent way too much time watching TV and checking social media for updates on the devastating tornado in Oklahoma. I checked on my family that lives there and reminded them I love them. The subject of bullying has come up a lot in my life lately, both from friends and my kids. In varying ways, in different forms, we have all been bullied. I truly don't believe that anyone can claim to have never in their lives been picked on, teased or ridiculed. Bullying is a universal experience. If you ask most adults, I bet they would say that they want bullying to stop. Parents and teachers

This morning at 6 we sent our oldest daughter on her first out-of-town school trip. When she asked if she could go, it was a month or so ago. I had no doubt that allowing her to go would be good for her -- she would get the chance to make memories with her friends and have a good time. What mom wouldn't want that?

I am quite fond of the phrase "Never stop learning." I hope people always take whatever opportunity that becomes available to expand their horizons, meet new people, or explore new surroundings. Learning is essential to survival; but, I never considered the fact that my child could teach me a valuable lesson. I was proven wrong this past weekend.

Shopping for clothes is my least favorite chore. I know there are some people who consider shopping one of the great American pastimes. And there was a time in my life when I enjoyed browsing for hours and searching for a bargain. All of that stopped when I became a mom.
