Dasher Diary: Another New Hurdle We Have to Endure
DoorDash is always changing things up in Amarillo. As a customer, you may not notice. A lot of these are new things thrown at the delivery drivers. A lot of them don't necessarily make us happy.
It just seems like a lot more hoops we have to jump through. Maybe they are going through the process of weeding out some drivers, I am not sure. First, they started by getting rid of the Top Dasher program and converting us to Platinum Dashers. The new system had higher quotas to get the best deliveries.
Then they started having us take photos of some of the receipts from some of the customers. I guess that is to ensure we pick up the correct order with the correct name.
It's a pain because I always notice I need to take the photo once I have already placed the food in my delivery catering bag in my trunk. Once I get in my driver's seat, I notice. I know that is my fault. So I try to pay better attention. If not I just have to get out of my car and get to the trunk to take my photo.
Now the most recent change makes a lot of people annoyed. It annoys me because I have to ask the restaurant to do this. It makes the restaurant mad because they have to open the bag and do this extra work.
DoorDash is having us ask the restaurant on certain orders to reopen the bag and confirm the food with us. Item by item. I get that sometimes the restaurant misses an item. I am sure that happens.
That is on the restaurant and not on us to double-check their work. We get paid two dollars from DoorDash. If they want us to do more than just deliver the food then they need to up that pay. We are contracted as delivery people, not quality control.
Plus we see the annoyance on the restaurant employees face when we ask. I get it. It annoys me too. Some places tell us they are not allowed to open up the bag once it is sealed.
What do we do in that case? Luckily there is an option that says you have an issue and either that the restaurant refuses or I can't get anyone to help. I had to use the second option over the weekend.
I had a pickup from the movie theater, I didn't know until then that you could DoorDash popcorn so that was cool. The theater was busy and I was not going to be able to get anyone to help. So I marked that and I was on my way.
It's a pain and DoorDash needs to stop making us do that or pay us to be quality control too.
