Dasher Diary: Questions Arise From One Delivery App to Another
When I signed up to use delivery apps in Amarillo I pretty much learned as I go. I mostly use DoorDash and Uber Eats. I stay away from anything where I have to shop for someone else. Why? I hate shopping for myself so I know I don't want to shop for anyone else. It makes sense.
I have the ability to deliver for Walmart. I just have never decided to open the app and give it a try. These deliveries would be ones that I would just pick up and deliver. There is no shopping involved. I just have been sticking to DoorDash and Uber Eats.
Recently I went to Walmart for the purchase of one shirt I needed for my granddaughter to match a skirt we already had. I saw the shirt the last time I was there but wasn't sure which size to wear at that point. When I got to the store they didn't have it in a 4T.
I wasn't running to all the different Walmarts. I have Walmart+ so I went to the app. I started an order. They gave me the option to pick it up the next morning at the Walmart I just left. I was confused because I knew they didn't have the shirt in stock. I was just there. Maybe it was in the back. So I ordered it for pickup the next morning.
The time came to pick it up and I got a message that it wasn't ready. Surprise they didn't have it in stock at that Walmart. Shocking I know. So they then said they could have it delivered to me the same day for free. Since, again, I am a Walmart+ member.
I selected that option because I need that shirt for my granddaughter. I knew there would be no way it would be mailed to me the same day. It would be tough to even get it the next day in the mail. So that means more than likely a delivery driver would pick it up and deliver it to me.
The problem is there was no way to add a tip to the delivery. It was just told to me it would be shipped. Am I going to look like the jerk who didn't tip? That is not me. If I am home I will meet them at the door with a tip. If I am not, that is what worries me.
How does something I start with I am going to pick up change to being shipped, most likely being a delivery driver that drops it off and I never get a chance to tip? I sure hope Walmart does something in the pay to make it worth it. I really do.
