Dasher Diary: Safety is My Number One Priority When Dashing
When out DoorDashing there are a lot of things to consider. Safety is one of those things that should be important to you. DoorDash has a few safety features set in the app to help you feel safer.
They have a feature that lets a family member or anyone you select get a notification that you are dashing. This way they know you are working and so they can keep an extra eye on you.
There is also the feature that if you are in an area for an extra long time DoorDash will send an alert asking if you are doing ok. They will let you know that you are in an area longer than you should be and you are to click if you are ok or not. I guess if they don't hear back from you they will send authorities. I have never gotten that far but I have received the message.
What I like to do for my own little safety measure is at the end of a delivery. You are supposed to confirm that you have completed an offer. If it is a leave at door delivery you take a photo and click confirm. The customer receives a message that their food is there and sees the photo you took.
If the delivery is a hand to me you are supposed to hand the food off and then confirm. I will never hit the confirm button until I am safely in my car. I don't care if it takes a few extra minutes to notify the customer that their food is there.
I want to make sure I am in my car and safe, just in case. There are times I have to deliver to an apartment complex or even a hotel. There are some that are sketchy and long dark hallways. There are even some not so up to par neighborhoods that I don't necessarily feel all that safe. I am not hitting confirm until I am out of the building or yard and back to my car.
I would hate for something to happen but at least if it does they know exactly which dash I was on. It makes sense to me. It's an extra layer added to the app knowing I was in an area a bit longer than they expected. They know exactly which house or apartment I am currently at.
I feel better. I am sure I am not the only Dasher that does this. Even if I am it just makes me feel better. I would rather be safe than sorry. This is something I do on every single dash you just never know.
