Amarillo has a lot of restaurants and we love to see them succeed. We love to help them out when they need it. We also all get a bit sad when we realize that a place is probably not coming back.

When a Local Favorite Goes Quiet

Munchies at 3rd and McMasters started off as a small drive-thru location and then they expanded and moved into the bigger area on the same property. They opened a successful restaurant.

There was a moment that we worried about the fate with a Marketplace Ad. We worried they were closing at the end of 2024. That didn't happen but a few months later something worse happened.

The Fire That Changed Everything

One day earlier this year there was a fire. That fire forced the restaurant to close, but there were hopes it would reopen. Repairs were made, and earlier this spring, many still hoped for a comeback. The hope was they would get back to serving us the great food that we were wanting.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Not in the same location anyway. The signage is all down and a for rent sign is up on the door. The small drive-thru area where they started has also changed.

What was once Munchie's is now called Sam's Beer and Wine. It doesn't look like Munchie's is coming back After the February fire, they started a GoFundMe to help with the cost of getting some of the equipment replaced.

They were looking to get back open. We’re not sure what happened, but the ‘For Rent’ sign tells us that they are not reopening in that location anyway. The owners of the building with a recent comment on social media made it seem like something new may be coming:

A New Tenant on the Horizon?

The owners were asked if the remodeling of the building was done:

Yes it is done . I don’t know what Munchies is doing, we are just the owner of the building. I think Sutphens Bar B Q from Borger is moving in there - Kolbie

Will Munchies Make a Comeback Elsewhere?

Hopefully Munchies can get back open. It will just have to be in another location.
