It doesn't take long for things to change here in Amarillo. It wasn't that long ago when an accident near I-40 and Western caused damage to the towering sign near the I-40 access road in front of Rudy's BBQ.

Since the accident, it seemed that there was hope of just restoring the sign and making it safe at the corner of their parking lot. Then, all of a sudden, the sign was gone. We just noticed the sign was gone in the middle of May. We really thought that was the end of it.

Not sure why the idea of it just coming down for a bit and a rebuild would be the outcome. So it was a surprise when driving out of town for the Memorial Day weekend, when I discovered what was going on.

The big steel poles that would hoist the oversized Rudy's sign were in the early stages of being rebuilt. So the sign would once again be part of the Rudy's parking lot. It will again be seen while driving down I-40.

I was hoping it would be back up and shining through when I made the return trip to Amarillo. Trust me, I drove by just to make sure. The poles are there and just waiting for the big sign to be hoisted back to its rightful home.

Update: When I drove by on Tuesday, they were out and working on the sign. It is back and ready to direct hungry eaters back to Rudy's off I-40 near Western.
