What’s Moving In? Empty Building Mystery Solved in Amarillo, Texas

It's always a fun game we play here in Amarillo when a restaurant closes. We dream about what could possibly move into the newly empty location. We have been playing this game since December with one building.

Right before Christmas, the Sumo Restaurant at I-40 and Bell went dark. They tried earlier to sell their business idea in hopes that the new owner would come in and keep it going. I liked Sumo. I had been a customer many times.

Selling it did not happen. So the landlord ended up locking them out. Here we sat with an empty building. Before Sumo was in that location, it was briefly Tacos & Tequila. Even before that sat King and I. They were tenants for many, many years.

We did find recently that the building was leased and a new restaurant was moving in. So after that, the wait was on. All we could do was speculate. We were at least told that it would be another restaurant. So the good news was there. What was it going to be?

I always hope for a Jack in the Box, but I wasn't delusional to even try to hope for that. I am just hoping for another location similar to King & I, or Sumo. I have said that several times. It is a good location for something like that.

I received a text from my friend Kristen recently letting me know that they put a temporary sign up at the location. Finally, word of what is moving in. Of course, I had to drive by.

I have not been able to find out much information on this new place. There is not a full menu online yet. We can expect to have a similar restaurant as Sumo, so I am excited. More information to follow.
