I mean being murdered is not really high up there on my list of wants. I don't think there are too many people with that on their bucket list. I could be wrong, I guess.

We have so many people in Texas angry about people in California. They are moving and taking over our state. Things are cheaper here so they want to escape. I guess that is part of the motivation. Not so fast though.

Living in Texas gives you a better chance of being murdered. Yes, you read that right. If you want to be safer from murder then California is the place to be. I know you may watch too much Investigation Discovery Channel like I do. You may think there is no way that could possibly be the truth.

I mean there were a few serial killers from California. The most famous one being The Night Stalker, Richard Ramirez. Were there many from Texas? That was one I was not familiar with so I had to research. The most famous one?

Charles Albright who was from right here in Amarillo. He was known as The Eyeball Killer. Ok, so neither state had a big list of serial killers so how is Texas the state you would more likely be murdered? This just is not adding up.

Did you know the reason you are safer in California than in Texas? Did you know you have nearly forty percent less chance of being murdered because of gun safety? Don't kill the messenger here.

One more reason to hate California, I guess. Californians are even twenty-five percent less likely to die in a mass shooting. Safety is everything. You can't argue with numbers.

According to the website ca.gov:

In 2021, California was ranked as the #1 state for gun safety by Giffords Law Center, and the state saw a 37% lower gun death rate than the national average. According to the CDC, California’s gun death rate was the 44th lowest in the nation, with 8.5 gun deaths per 100,000 people – compared to 13.7 deaths per 100,000 nationally, 28.6 in Mississippi, 20.7 in Oklahoma, and 14.2 in Texas. California’s gun death rate for children is also lower than other states, and is 58% lower than the national average.

So before you get all angry with me being pro-California, I am not by the way. It's just pretty interesting that Texas stands where it does in the murder department. That would be one thing I bet we would all like to see change.
