Texas Implements Controversial Law: Here’s What It Means for You

Oh, Texas, how you just love to be on the forefront of everything, right? Whether it's trying to ditch daylight saving time for "Texas time" or blocking certain people from purchasing land here, we can always count on you to be in the front of the line.

What Has Texas Decided To Do Now

How about making it extremely hard to get apps onto your phone or device? Yeah, thanks a lot, Texas. Now we are going to have to jump through hoops just in order to get a new app added to our device, thanks to this new bill.

Gov. Abbott has officially signed into Texas law a new a new bill that will force age verification every single time you go to download an app through Google or Apple.

So, How Does It Work

Bottom line is this. Any user under the age of 13 will have to obtain parental permission in order to download any app inside the store. Yes, even something as harmless as Candy Crush.

Aside from the fact that it's going to end up being somewhat inconvenient, it COULD help protect kids from apps they shouldn't have. However, there is a major drawback to it aside from not being able to just download anything you want without verification.

Millions Of Texans' Personal Info Will Be Held

This is the thing that many are honed in on. Because of the verification process, app stores will be collecting and keeping all sorts of sensitive data from people, and we all know how that stuff loves to magically get exposed.

Apple believes that the new bill poses a threat to the privacy of all users, and quite honestly, they aren't wrong about that. What exactly are we going to have to verify and give them?

The law is set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
