Downtown Amarillo has seen many businesses come and go in its time. It's the heart of Amarillo and if those streets could talk you would be shocked at what they would say.

Polk Street is a great place to spend an evening or enjoy a coffee or a meal during the day. Over the years, Polk Street has seen many businesses come and go, and is home to many cursed buildings.

Let me start off with this disclaimer: When we say cursed building we don't mean haunted or demonized, we just mean that it is a building that has had many businesses come and go within its walls.

Not long ago, we took a look at one of Downtown Amarillo's cursed buildings, located at 715 S. Polk. It has been many things over the years, mainly bars, but it seems as soon as one moves in, it moves right out. It was even a funeral home back in the day, so it may actually be cursed.

And now we're back with another one.

No matter what comes into downtown Amarillo, one building that seems to be cursed is 614 S. Polk.

This particular building has been home to multiple businesses over the years. Let's check it out.

The Burger Bar

The Burger Bar had an eclectic menu of burgers. They had some really great cheese fries as well. One of the biggest issues people had with the place was usually when you order a burger it comes with a side of fries, chips or rings, however with this place it was an additional charge. They did have an incredible beer selection. However, it kept trying to change its identity and eventually closed. This restaurant was open 2011-2017.

Polk Street Eats

Polk Street Eats made its way into the building in 2018 with burgers, salads, and more. They still had a great beer selection with multiple kinds of beers on taps, and you could get a good cocktail as well. One of the highlights was the Texas Sushi app. Let's just say Polk Street Eats was very reminiscent of the Burger Bar but with a bigger menu selection. The restaurant was open from 2018-2022

Charlee's Restaurant & Bar or Charlee's Chicken (it had a few names)

Charlee's had some amazing chicken dishes and more sides to choose from than you could imagine. Plus, some great salads. It was the perfect place for lunch or dinner for the chicken lover in your life. That's what it was in the beginning as it moved on the menu expanded from chicken to burgers and wraps. Charlee's was open for about a year 2022 - May 2023.

What's next for this building? Who knows, but here's a quick peek into the past.

Amarillo Cursed Buildings - 715 S. Polk

Polk Street is a great place to spend an evening. However, over the years, Polk Street has seen many businesses come and go. One of these buildings is at 715 S. Polk. It has been many things over the years, mainly bars, but it seems as soon as one moves in, it moves right out.

So what all has been in there? Let's take a look back at 715 S. Polk.

This building was originally built in 1915, it was known as The Hollywood.

Amarillo's Cursed Buildings – Historic Route 66, 2813 SW 6th

There are some places around town that just can't seem to stay in business for very long. This is one of them.

The address of the cursed building is 2813 SW 6th Street. This building was originally built in 1930. This place was originally a service station. I'm sure in the heydays of Rt. 66, this place was the place to stop to get your car serviced. However, in the last 15 years, this building has seen many different faces.

Amarillo Buildings That Seem To Be Cursed: 2601 6th Avenue

It's time for another edition of Amarillo's Cursed Buildings. The building we are focusing on is the building located on a concrete island at 2601 6th Avenue. It's that little island that's squeezed in where Georgia meets 6th.
