Pet Owners Alerted: Popular Fermented Pet Food Brand Issues Urgent Recall

We love our pets as they are a part of our family. As pet owners, we always want to ensure they are well taken care of and fed the best food. However, one pet food brand has issued a voluntary recall due to potential health risks for both pets and their owners.

ANSWERS Pet Food

The FDA announced that Lystn, LLC d.b.a./ANSWERS Pet Food of Fleetwood, PA is voluntarily recalling lots of their beef and chicken pet food.  The ANSWERS Straight Beef Formula for Dogs and ANSWERS Straight Chicken Formula for Dogs are being recalled.

Samples of these foods collected by the US Food and Drug Administration tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria.  Both animals and pets can become sick from eating or handling the product.

The following lots are being recalled:

These products were sold at retailers nationwide and through online direct sales.

Symptoms of Listeria in Humans:

• Fever
• Headache
• muscle aches
• stiff neck
• nausea,
• abdominal pain,
• diarrhea,
• confusion
• balance loss
• convulsions.

Symptoms of Salmonella in Humans

• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
• abdominal cramping
• fever

Listeria very rarely causes illnesses in dogs, but symptoms include diarrhea and vomiting.  However, if the pet is carrying Listeria it can be passed to its human.

Symptoms of Salmonella in Dogs:

• lethargy
• diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
• fever
• vomiting
• decreased appetite
• abdominal pain
