The new decade came roaring in like a tropical storm. Everything from a new President to an iconic movie reveal and one of the greatest cliff-hangers in television history. Check out what happened in 1980!

Every Friday Night at 5pm I count down the 10 Biggest hits from the week, spotlighting a specific year in the 1980s. It's amazing to see and hear how music styles have changed over the years, but the one constant is, 'a great song transcends time.'

1987 was the year we learned that 'greed is good' from Gordon Gekko in 'Wall Street,' the bubble-gum battle began with Tiffany and Debbie Gibson and Baby Jessica was rescued after being in a well for 58 hours in Midland, Texas. Ronald Reagan sends a challenge to Berlin with, 'Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall!' Diane said goodbye to Sam on 'Cheers' and these were the ten biggest songs on the radio

Over the weekend I spent some time watching some classic VH1 'Behind The Music' Episodes. One of my favorites was about Daryl Hall & John Oates.

Up until 1983, the most top 40 hits off an album would be about three or four. That all changed when Michael Jackson released, what would become his biggest album ever, 'Thriller.'

A great way people can deal with a loss is by writing their feelings down in a journal. Or if you are one of the lucky ones, you can write a song, record it and (hopefully) get it on the radio. As we approach Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday (1/20), it reminded me about songs that are played on the radio about celebrities who are no longer with us.

This Soundtrack album was released on June 25th, 1984 and would be his sixth studio recording. He and his band would go on to score a Grammy for 'Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media' and 'Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. More clues below.

One of the great things about 'Pop' radio, aka 'Top 40,' is that the music chart showed such a huge diversity this week in 1984. You can find a little bit of everything; rock, soft rock, pop and dance. Some of Radio royalty for the year were; Lionel Richie, Billy Joel, Madonna and Duran Duran.

The 80's synth-pop duo of Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, best know as the Eurythmics are reuniting, even if it's for only one night. Lennox and Stewart formed the group in December of 1980 and for the next decade never looked back.

I mentioned this on the air the other day, but figured I would put all three songs together to see if you agree with me or not. One thing about me, if you don't already know, is that I have so many songs running through my head at any moment in time.

Happy Birthday to the 'King of the Soundtracks' Kenny Loggins. Loggins was born in Everett, Washington on January 7, 1948 and is the cousin of another famous singer, Dave Loggins ('Please Come To Boston').

Hairbands, also called Glam metal, started to hit the music scene in a big way in the early part of the 80's. If you were in a hairband and wanted to get noticed then you packed up your axe, skins and hairspray and headed west to become part of the L.A. Sunset Strip music scene.
