Amarillo seems to have a problem with our animals making their way to the shelters. There is no room. If everyone just had their dogs and cats fixed this problem would get a lot better.
In 2017, Havens convinced the Amarillo City Council to pass a municipal ordinance that banned bestiality and supported an effort to ensure Texas law would make bestiality illegal statewide,
Dogs are normally $35 to adopt, but for the month of January, dogs are just $10. Cats are normally $25 to adopt, but for the month of January, cats are just $5.
Amarillo has a huge pet population and because of that our shelters at times are busting at the seams with animals. Animals that have been abandoned, surrendered or animals that have just gotten lost. We as citizens have to do better and be more responsible with our animals.
The controversy with the Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare continues. A woman by the name of Miranda took to Facebook recently to tell her story about how her pet dog Gordy was mistakenly euthanized by the Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare.

Take it to a shelter, take it to the Animal Animal Management and Welfare, take it to Facebook and ask for someone to adopt it from you. You don't just throw it in the trash.
When you have a pet, they become a part of your family. No one wants to think about losing their pet and that's why getting them microchip is a great idea. If they get lost, then any vet, shelter, etc can scan them and find you!
