Glee,’ ‘The Voice,’ and ‘American Idol‘ were among the music-themed shows that scored nominations this morning for the 2012 Emmy Awards, which recognize excellence in television.

Most of the stars of ‘Glee’ were shut out, including former winner Jane Lynch, but Dot-Marie Jones was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Coach Beiste. Among its other technical awards nominations, ‘Glee’ was recognized for Outstanding Cinematography for the ‘Asian F‘ episode.

‘The Voice’ was the only one of the singing competition shows to earn a nod for Outstanding Reality – Competition Program. The program is also up for Outstanding Art Direction for Variety Programming and, oddly enough, for Outstanding Hairstyling. ‘Idol’ host Ryan Seacrest picked up a nomination for Outstanding Host for a Reality Program for the fifth straight year.

The Broadway-themed drama ‘Smash‘ earned a nomination for guest actress Uma Thurman, while the show was recognized for Outstanding Choreography. The song ‘Let Me Be Your Star,’ featured in the pilot, received a nod for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.

Among the other noteworthy nominees: Madonna‘s Super Bowl halftime show for Outstanding Lighting for a Variety Special, iCarly for Outstanding Children’s Program, and Tony Bennett‘s ‘Duets II’ PBS for Outstanding Variety Special.

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the 2012 Emmys air on Sunday, Sept. 23.
