January 26th was a very busy day in history.  Ben Franklin wanted a turkey to represent America.  The twist was banned.  Michael Jackson caught fire, and Bill Clinton did not have sexual relations with that woman

1784 - BENJAMIN FRANKLIN wrote a letter to his daughter supporting the TURKEY as America's national symbol.  He complained that the eagle was a bird of bad moral character and the turkey was MORE RESPECTABLE.

1918 - President HERBERT HOOVER, who was the head of the Food Administration during WOODROW WILSON's presidency, called for "Meatless Tuesday" and "Wheatless Wednesday” to help the war effort overseas.

1962 - Bishop Burke of the Buffalo, New York, Catholic Diocese BANNED "THE TWIST".  The evil "Twist" could not be danced, sung about or listened to in any Catholic school, parish or youth event.

(--Later that year, "The Twist" was banned from community center dances in Tampa, Florida, as well.)

1963 - THE FOUR SEASONS' mighty hit "Walk Like A Man" was released.

1977 - FLEETWOOD MAC'S original lead guitarist, PETER GREEN, was committed to a mental hospital in England . . . after he fired a gun at a delivery boy who was bringing a royalty check for the group's record sales.

1979 - "The Dukes of Hazzard", starring JOHN SCHNEIDER and TOM WOPAT, premiered on CBS.

1984 - MICHAEL JACKSON suffered burns about the scalp and neck when his HAIR CAUGHT FIRE in an explosion on the set of a Pepsi commercial!!!  The commercial debuted on MTV on February 27th, 1984, with Michael's flaming head edited out.

(--As we now know, it was this accident that would at least partially lead to Michael Jackson's death . . . A FULL 25 YEARS LATER.)

1988 - ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S "PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" opened on Broadway.  It's now the longest-running show in Broadway history.

1992 - Following the Super Bowl, BILLY CLINTON appeared with his wife HILLARY on "60 Minutes", denying an affair with GENNIFER FLOWERS as reported in a tabloid.

(--Hillary said, quote, "I'm not some little woman, standing by my man like Tammy Wynette."  Clinton later admitted that he had a sexual affair with Flowers. )

1997 - METALLICA drummer LARS ULRICH married Dr. Skylar Satenstein.   They got divorced in 2004.  (--Before she married Lars, Skylar used to date Matt Damon.  Matt based the Minnie Driver character in "Good Will Hunting" on her.)

1997 - The GREEN BAY PACKERS beat the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 35-to-21 to win their first SUPER BOWL in 29 years.

1998 - PRESIDENT CLINTON uttered the now infamous words "I want to say one thing to the American people I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky".
