We are in the middle of the best two days of the year, the Children's Miracle Network Celebration. The money raised for CMN in these next few days will stay local to help local kids. Donations go to help our kids and here is something amazing that donations to CMN created.
As you know the Children's Miracle Network Celebration Radiothon starts tomorrow. In 2008 I was helping one of our local TV stations with the CMN Telethon. As I stepped into the NICU I saw a girl that I went to high school with and she was in full NICU gowns and standing by the tiniest baby I have ever seen in person and that baby girl was Mylee.
We will be kicking of four CMN Celebration Radiothon on Thursday and will continue it through Friday. We encourage you to tune in and join us for this wonderful event. Please open your hearts and your wallets to help out this wonderful cause. All money raised will stay right here in the Texas Panhandle to help our local kids. Like a lot of other people on Monday, I spent way too much time watching TV and checking social media for updates on the devastating tornado in Oklahoma. I checked on my family that lives there and reminded them I love them. I don't know if it's the fact that journalism never quite leaves your system, or if its a natural inclination, but I tend to overdose on news. Death and destruction of any kind is sad, but the news seems worse when those who perish are children.
Oh, that dreaded sound that comes in the night that can jolt a mother out of a dead sleep... Someone is about to puke. Noooo!!!
The subject of bullying has come up a lot in my life lately, both from friends and my kids. In varying ways, in different forms, we have all been bullied. I truly don't believe that anyone can claim to have never in their lives been picked on, teased or ridiculed. Bullying is a universal experience. If you ask most adults, I bet they would say that they want bullying to stop. Parents and teachers for the most part would unite in one voice to say that bullying should stop. Yet still it continues...
Vacation Bible School or as the cool kids call it, VBS is a fun event the kids can enjoy while learning about God. When summer rolls around so does VBS. Not only is it fun but there is more than one in town so your kids can have more than one week of VBS. Plus VBS is free. Most of the churches in town offer VBS one week out of the summer. Sigh. I think the hardest thing about being a parent is there's no darn crystal ball. There's no instruction manual. There's no FAQ's. No help desk. No troubleshooting matrix. Nothing. We can Google and read books and ask for advice... but at the end of the day, it all comes down to gritting your teeth, making a decision and hoping it was the right one.
Mother’s Day is upon us and what an awesome day for any mother out there. We are honored and should be if you ask me. But, the question I have is, where did you learn to be a Mom? How did you learn the necessary skills to not kill your child? How did we as Moms get to the point where we know “best”?
When your child was 7 months old what were you expecting from them? You expect them to start crawling or be crawling. You expect teething. However, in that time did you expect them to be up on water skis?
I've been hanging on this blog a lot lately: travel50stateswithkids.com. The whole site is built around the concept of taking kids to all 50 states--in as little as 12 trips even. I know, sounds crazy, right? But I have to admit, I'm kind of digging it. There are numerous clubs for this, by the way. Google it!
I am quite fond of the phrase "Never stop learning." I hope people always take whatever opportunity that becomes available to expand their horizons, meet new people, or explore new surroundings. Learning is essential to survival; but, I never considered the fact that my child could teach me a valuable lesson. I was proven wrong this past weekend.
