The man who struck and killed Dumas High School Coach Ryne Erickson is headed to prison.

20-year-old Kaden Lee Thornburg was driving a Pontiac Grand Prix on 7th street in Dumas when the incident occurred on September 11, 2016.  The coach was attempting to cross the street when he was struck.  According to the 69th District Attorney David Green, Thornburg fled the scene without stopping to render aid to Coach Erickson.  Thornburg abandoned the car in a field outside of town but was captured around three hours later by the Dumas Police Department.  A blood test revealed the presence of alcohol, methamphetamine, and cocaine in his system.

Thornburg pled guilty to one count of Failure to Render Aid After Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death, a second-degree felony.  He has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
