Back in my day (oh dear I really just typed that, I have reached old), we would buy posters, rip pictures out of magazines and wear picture buttons to show our love for our favorite celebrities.  We would even joke that Bon Jovi, Brad Pitt, Kirk Cameron and Corey Haim were our boyfriends.  However, these days you can do just about anything with an app, and now your daughters or sons can virtually date One Direction

The new app is called Date One Direction and it is available on iTunes.

It is a game.

The description of the app says:

Start with a little flirting and if things go well, you can move on to dating.  Go for coffee with Liam or maybe to the movies with Louis.  If you're ready, how about dinner in a romantic restaurant?  Play a range of minigames with hilarious outcomes to progress.

Once you become his girlfriend, you'll have even more minigames to play.  How about treating Niall to breakfast in bed? Or taking Harry for a picnic? Or even a romantic candlelit bubble bath.

Hmm...not sure how I feel about this one.  Breakfast in bed, a romantic candlelit bubble bath, I just hope this app doesn't eventually encourage the avatars to have sex.   Sometimes I think apps can go way to far in the wrong direction.

Don't get me wrong, apps can be fun.   I play silly iPhone games like Tiny Tower but it doesn't mean I'll become an obsessed building owner.  I just feel like a game like this can cause unrealistic expectations for a young person.  Where reality isn't reality any more.
