Quick – close your eyes and think of a ‘90s TV show that hasn’t been rebooted yet. If your guess was Party of Five, we’ve got great news for you and ABC’s Freeform viewers. The classic drama will return with a new spin from original series creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Freeform is moving forward on an immigration-themed reboot of the 1994 FOX drama that saw early career starts for Neve Campbell, Lacey Chabert, Scott Wolf and Matthew Fox. Rather than follow a group of siblings adjusting to their parents’ deaths, however, the 2018 version will center around the five Buendias children after their parents are deported to Mexico. Original series creators Keyser and Lippman will write the pilot with Castle alum Michal Zebede, as directed by The Affair vet Rodrigo Garcia.

The original San Francisco-set series ran for six seasons from 1994-2000, and even spawned one-season spinoff Time of Your Life with Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character, Sarah Reeves. The new iteration only has a put pilot order for the moment (meaning a substantial penalty if Freeform doesn’t air it), but could reach the airwaves as soon as 2018.

Everybody wants to be closer to free, but will a new iteration of Party of Five have the same impact with a more topical focus?
