‘Point Blank’ Remake in the Works From Mark Wahlberg

Point Blank remake
Universal/Magnolia Pictures

There’s been lots of talk about Mark Wahlberg lately, what with the initial rumor that he’d be starring in ‘Transformers 4‘ and then the follow up statement from Michael Bay himself claiming those to be false. So what is this star up to nowadays? Oh nothing, he’s just working on an Americanized remake of ‘Point Blank.’

The French action thriller — originally starring Gilles Lellouche, Roschdy Zem, Gerard Lanvin and Elena Anaya — followed Samuel, a male nurse whose pregnant wife is kidnapped before his very eyes. When he recovers from the attack, Sartet, a dangerous criminal, is revealed to be responsible and is threatening to do away with Samuel’s wife if he doesn’t obey his orders.

According to Variety, Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson’s Leverage are teaming up with Working Title to create an America version of the film, directed by Fred Cavaye. The 2010 version, not associated with the 1967 John Boorman film, already spawned an American remake (‘The Next Three Days’) starring Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks. Plus, word is there’s also an Asian remake of ‘Point Blank’ in the works for South Korean audiences.

What do you think? Were you a fan of the ‘Point Blank’ story to begin with, either through the French film or the Crowe-Banks remake? What do you think Mark Wahlberg can bring to the table? Let us know in the comments below.
