I'm a big fan of watching movies because for that short time you are taken into another world and can forget about what's going on in the real world.  When it comes to movies you not only get the story but you get some great music.  Here is a list of songs that movies made famous.

 

  • Bohemian Rhapsody-Queen

    Movie: Wayne's World

    Freddie Mercury wrote Bohemian Rhapsody for their album A Night at the Opera.

    The song became instantly famous again in 1992 when it was featured in a scene in the movie Wayne's World

  • Gangsta's Paradise - Coolio

    Movie: Dangerous Minds

    Coolio released Gangsta's Paradise in November 1995 on the album of the same name.

    The song was also featured in the movie Dangerous Minds and featured on the soundtrack.

  • Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds

    Movie: The Breakfast Club

    Simple Minds recorded the song in 1985.

    After it appeared in The Breakfast Club in shot to #1 on the charts.

    The song re-emerged in the movie Pitch Perfect in 2012.

     

  • In Your Eye's - Peter Gabriel

    Movie: Say Anything

    This song was released on Peter Gabriel's album So in 1986.

    In 1989 it became the theme song for the movie, Say Anything.

  • I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston

    The Bodyguard

    Dolly Parton wrote and recorded the song in 1973.  It was released on her album Jolene in 1974.

    Whitney Houston re-recorded the song in 1992 for the movie, The Bodyguard.

     

  • Stay (I Missed You)- Lise Loeb

    Movie: Reality Bites

    Stay (I Missed You), was Lisa Loeb's debut single.  She released the song on her album, Tails in 1994.

    The song was also featured in and on the movie soundtrack for Reality Bites.

     

  • Oh Yeah - Yello

    Ferris Bueller's Day Off

    Yello released Oh Yeah in 1986 on their album, Stella.

    The song was featured in the movie in 1987.  On another note, an "official" soundtrack for Ferris Bueller's Day Off was never released.

  • I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers

    Movie: Benny & Joon

    The Proclaimers released this song on their Sunshine on Leith album in 1998.  It had success in the UK and Austrailia.

    It didn't become a hit until the song was featured in the movie Benny & Joon in 1993.

  • Old Time Rock and Roll - Bob Seger

    Movie: Risky Business

    Bob Seger released this on in 1979.  It was on his album Silver Bullet.

    The song's fame grew when it was featured in the movie Risky Business, when a young Tom Cruise who was only clad in his underwear, dress shirt, and socks danced to the song.

  • Life is a Highway - Rascal Flatts

    Movie: Cars

    Life is a Highway was originally written and recorded by Tom Cochrane and released on his 1991 album Mad Mad World.  It saw success on the US charts.

    However, in 2006, Rascal Flatts covered the song and it was featured on Disney/Pixar's Cars.  Although they never released the song to country radio, it went to #18 on the country charts.

  • I Like to Move It - Reel 2 Real

    Movie: Madagascar 1, 2, & 3

    Reel 2 Real originally released this song in 1994 and it only peaked at 89 on the charts.

    It wasn't until the song was featured in the original Madagascar movie, that it because well known in households all over the world.

    It's the theme song for King Julian!
