Taylor Swift to Release ’22′ as Next ‘Red’ Single

It’s been a few months since Taylor Swift released a single from her quadruple-platinum ‘Red’ album, but that doesn’t mean she’s finished with it.

Ryan Seacrest reports that Swift has picked ’22′ as the record’s fourth single, with her label gearing up to make a presumably gigantic promotional push when it’s shipped to radio on April 1. It’ll have some big shoes to fill, too: Previous ‘Red’ singles ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,’ ‘Begin Again,’ and ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ all peaked at or near the top of the charts.

Interestingly, while ’22′ is only just about to receive its official release, it’s already made its chart debut — in fact, in the weeks surrounding ‘Red’s’ release, ’22′ received enough radio spins and digital downloads to send it all the way to No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100. And it’s easy to see why: As we noted in our review of the album, the song is “a fun anthem for sleepover parties” whose carefree vibe should easily resonate with anyone who is (or can remember being) 22.

The song’s title is no accident, as Swift told Billboard last October. “For me, being 22 has been my favorite year of my life,” she answered when asked about the track. “I like all the possibilities of how you’re still learning, but you know enough. You still know nothing, but you know that you know nothing. You’re old enough to start planning your life, but you’re young enough to know there are so many unanswered questions. That brings about a carefree feeling that is sort of based on indecision and fear and a the same time letting lose. Being 22 has taught me so much.”
