Have you ever thought to yourself, man, polka music is great, but I wish it had a story of lies, crime, and intrigue to go along with it? Well, you’re in luck, because Netflix if bringing us one of the funniest movies to come out of Sundance earlier this year, The Polka King.

Picture this: Jack Black as a blond Polish immigrant who creates a giant scam involving polka parties, money laundering, and elderly people with thousands of dollars burning holes in their pockets. The movie delighted attendees at Sundance, and ended up going to Netflix in a pretty sweet deal earlier this year.

The Polka King is the stranger-than-fiction tale of real life swindler Jan Lewan, who threw opulent polka parties and developed all kinds of get-rich-quick schemes that had him promising field trips for polka fans to meet the Pope. In getting his schemes to work out, though, he ended up spending way more money than he actually made. When our Matt Singer saw the film at Sundance, he called it “an incredible tale of ambition, greed, and dancing bears.” You’ve gotta see it to believe it. And you can see it when The Polka King hits Netflix on January 12 next year.
