Amarillo Boy Scout Troop 80’s Treeland Is Open For Business
If you live in the Texas panhandle, finding a real Christmas tree for your house can be a challenge. While we do have some local retailers who provide fresh cut trees, we do not have classic Christmas tree farms like you see in other parts of the country. Here in Amarillo, though, there is a Christmas tree tradition that has been going on for 64 years.
Once again the Boy Scouts of Troop 80 have opened up their annual Treeland. Fresh trees arrived over the weekend and are now on sale. This sale serves as one of the troop's major yearly fundraisers as well as helping the scouts grow their communications and sales skills. The lot is located at 1615 Bellaire Street and is open weekdays from 10am to 9pm, Saturdays 9am to 9pm, and Sundays from 1pm to 9pm. The scouts say they will stay open as long as they still have trees to sell.
As an Eagle Scout myself, I can't tell you how much it means to support a fundraiser like this. Growing up back east in Maryland our major fundraiser each year was a tree sale as well. If it wasn't for this yearly event, we wouldn't have had funds for summer camp and equipment. So when you go to grab a tree, take the ride over to see the boys from Boy Scout Troop 80.
