I honestly didn't know what to expect when I began my search for resources in Amarillo for those with dyslexia. There was this moment of disbelief when I saw the number of search results that popped up. I expected maybe one or two. I was wrong.

Amarillo has many great resources for those with dyslexia.

What Is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia, according to the Mayo Clinic website, is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to a difficulty in identifying speech sounds and how they relate to letters and words.

Everything I've read is quick to emphasize that it has nothing to do with intelligence. It just has to do with how language is processed.

Resources Available In Amarillo, Texas

I was surprised by the number of resources available, and at the various types we have in the Texas panhandle. When it comes to finding help for yourself or a loved one who is dealing with dyslexia, you have plenty of choices.

One option is the Scottish Rite Learning Center of West Texas. They have a campus in Amarillo and Lubbock, and offer resources for students who are dealing with dyslexia. They also offer therapist training. Their website mentions that no student has ever been charged for attending the center. That's already taken care of.

Perhaps you're looking for something along the lines of a personal therapist instead of attending a center. There are private therapists in the area. Kim Clark and Kris Smith are two such therapists.

There are resources available through WTAMU and the Region 16 Education Service Center as well. These are great places to start your search for info as they have tons of information readily available.
