An inmate, Marvin Garcia, escaped the Neal Unit this morning around 3:40am.  The Neal Unit along with the Amarillo Police Department are currently searching for this man.

Garcia is a Hispanic male, 34 years old, 5'7, 150 lbs, brown hair and brown eyes.  He has a tear drop tattoo under his left eye, a tattoo of a beaded rope with a cross on his chest.  He was serving a 25 year sentence for murder out our Harris County.  He is considered dangerous.

If you know the whereabouts or have seen this man call 911 immediately.

UPDATE: 8:05AM  Amarillo Police Department

After the escapee jumped the fence this morning, he went south and west from the prison.  TDCJ tracking teams and officers from local agencies are continuing the search.  The man was last seen wearing white prison clothing.  Residents in the area should secure their homes and call 911 if they see the man or anything suspicious.

UPDATE: 8:38AM Amarillo Police Department

Marvin Garcia may look slightly different than in the released photo.  He is wearing glasses and his hair is now about one inch long. He weighs about 140 pounds.  He may have suffered cuts crossing the fence.  TDCJ has confirmed that one of their roving patrols initially saw the man and fired shots at him.  They have no information that he was hit.  Over 30 law enforcement officers are currently involved in the search, which is concentrating on northeastern Amarillo.

Several teams of officers are beginning to search door to door in the residential area in NE Amarillo, concentrating in Eastridge area

The escapee was apprehended.

The inmate that escaped from the Neal Unit at TDC, is now in custody. He was located about 21 miles north of Amarillo and 1 1/2 miles to the west of highway 87/287. He was spotted by air and was taken into custody by Potter County Deputies and Department of Public Safety troopers.
