We Are In The Middle Of A Record Setting Dangerous Heat Wave

Ask anyone who lives in Amarillo, Texas and they'll tell you that extreme weather is just a part of life in the Texas panhandle. We see it all from extreme heat and floods to brutal winters that bring blizzards and ice storms. This current heat wave is no exception. It's dangerous, and it's trying to break records.

Higher Highs, And Higher Lows In Amarillo This August

The National Weather Service in Amarillo recently released information regarding the current heat wave we're experiencing. We've had multiple days in a row of triple-digit heat, and frankly, most of us are sick of it. If forecasts are correct, we're about halfway through this battle with high temperatures.

According to the information they released on social media, we're doing our best to break records with this heat wave. One that we have a chance of breaking today is the highest low recorded in Amarillo. The current record stands at 73, which was set in 1922. Unless something miraculous happens, we'll break that with our low of 77. We're one degree away from tying the all-time record highest low of 78. That was set in 1938.

We're Close To Breaking The Record For Longest Streak Of Triple-Digit Days

This current stretch of triple-digit temps is supposed to last 9 days. There's still a chance, according to the National Weather Service, that we could see a couple of days tacked on at the end giving us a total of 11. The previous record for days with temperatures in the triple digits is 8. We're at 6 so far.

It's been brutal, and if it's any consolation it sounds like we're about halfway to seeing a little relief. It's still very important that you do what you can to take care of yourself and your loved ones while we make our way out of this heat wave.
