All week we've been looking at the extreme wind expected on Friday in Amarillo, Texas, and the Texas panhandle. Wind gusts are expected to be up to 70 miles per hour in some places. Xcel Energy has announced that they are prepared to use a PSPS to mitigate wildfire danger. Here is what will be affected.
What Will The Public Safety Power Shutoff Affect On Friday
If Xcel Energy should choose to activate a PSPS on Friday, there's a lot that will be affected. On the Xcel Energy website, you can find an entire map of the area that will be hit by the power shutoff.

There is a large portion of the Texas panhandle that will be affected by the shutoff. Fortunately for Canyon and Amarillo, the shutoff will mostly be in the areas surrounding the towns. Umbarger finds itself in a shutoff zone.
Areas around Thompson Park, Wonderland Amusement Park, the Tascosa Country Club and La Paloma Golf Club are in areas affected by the shutoff. Lake Tanglewood is also in part of the shutoff area. You can see the whole map, and search for your address at this link.
Prepare For Possible Public Safety Power Shut-off March 14 In Texas Panhandle
The shutoff area goes as far east as Wheeler, Texas. It goes as far north as just northeast of Dumas. In our area, it extends south to Happy. If you haven't yet, you might want to make plans for tomorrow.

Make sure you are prepared for the potential power shutoff on March 14. According to the Xcel Energy website, getting power back on could take a while in some areas beyond just during the high wind threat.
