The winter weather has caused all kinds of problems in Amarillo. Construction projects have been delayed. Schools, businesses, and offices have been closed or delayed multiple times. Now, it's impacting when your trash might get picked up.

City of Amarillo Announces Delays In Trash Collection

Of all the things that could be impacted by the frigid temperatures and brutal winter weather we've had, trash collection wasn't something that crossed my mind. Today, though, the City of Amarillo announced that is exactly what is happening.

According to information released by the City, the subzero temps we've been treated to for the past few days have caused some issues at the Solid Waste Transfer Station. There's a ruptured water line, and it's slowing things down quite a bit.

While crews work to fix it, trash will be taken directly to the landfill. That's going to cause delays in residential collection times thanks to the additional amount of travel that's going to be done.

No Word On When Delays To Trash Collection Will Be Over

The information provided by the City didn't go into detail on when they think the repairs would be done. They did point out, though, that with temperatures continuing to be well below freezing, there could be delays in getting the work finished.

Most of us expect that winter weather is going to disrupt our commute. It might cause us to scramble to figure out what to do when the kids don't have school. We expect our pipes to possibly freeze, or our vehicles to act funny. We don't expect it to mess with our trash collection.

There's much else to do other than be patient while they attempt to make the repairs. Hopefully, they will be done sooner rather than later, and hopefully we're done with the brutal winter weather for a bit.
