Dove Cameron Addresses Possibility of Future ‘Descendants’ Films Without Cameron Boyce
Dove Cameron shared her thoughts about the possibility of future Disney Channel Descendants films without former co-star Cameron Boyce.
In a new interview, the 23-year-old teased the potential for a fourth film in the popular franchise.
"Yeah, I do think there is a world where that happens," Cameron confirmed to Entertainment Tonight. "I don't know anything for sure, but I definitely don't think that that's an impossibility."
While the three films have been extremely popular for the kids and tween audience, the next film would be without a major star, Boyce. The actor passed away from a seizure on July 6, less than a month after the third film, Descendants 3, was released.
In the film series, Boyce played Carlos, the son of Cruella De Vil, while Cameron portrayed Mal, daughter of Maleficent. The pair played two of the four starring roles in the franchise and were also close friends in real life. The absence of his character would be beyond heartbreaking for the fans and the cast alike.
"I don't love the idea of doing it without Cameron," she continued. "I don't know what the plot would be and I don't know what it would look like. But I also love the franchise and I love [director] Kenny [Ortega], and I love Disney and I love that cast. I loved that time in my life."
Though another film in the franchise would not be truly complete without Boyce, Cameron believes that the series "continues on in a different incarnation."
"There is nothing that I can say for sure, but I definitely can say that it is not out of the question!" she concluded.
