Escape the Mundane And Explore Some Of Texas’ Stunning Islands
Texas is famous for a lot of things. The Lone Star State is associated with cattle, ranches, cowboys, the oil field, major cities, and deserts. When most people think of Texas, beaches aren't the first thing that crosses their mind. However, Texas is home to many beautiful beaches and islands worth escaping to.
The Beautiful Islands Of Texas
A simple Google search for islands in Texas will blow your mind. Several islands in the Lone Star State offer a chance to get away to a more tropical atmosphere. I'm not saying they're your stereotypical tropical paradise as seen on TV, but they're definitely more tropical than the panhandle or the desert in West Texas.
Some of them are mega-popular family vacation spots. Others are the place you went to experiment with a more "loose" lifestyle on spring break back in '92. My favorite is Padre Island. The sand is perfect, the weather is awesome, and most of the people you run into still have that classic Texan hospitality.
What Islands Are In Texas
The list of islands in Texas isn't massive, but it is bigger than you'd probably expect. Some of the popular islands in Texas include:
- Padre Island
- Galveston Island
- Mustang Island
- Ward Island
- Follets Island
- Goat Island
- Pelican Island
There are many more. One of the most interesting islands is Goat Island, named for the hundreds of wild goats that were living on the island when the first family to settle on the island arrived. Goat Island wound up becoming an incredibly popular vacation destination and even earned the title of "Key West of Texas". If I were to disappear one day, you might want to check there first.
