‘Game of Thrones’ Freddie Stroma Confirms Season 7 Recast
UnREAL and Harry Potter fans were excited as any by the Game of Thrones Season 6 casting news that Freddie Stroma would portray Samwell Tarly’s brother, Dickon, though the actual appearance itself proved surprisingly short. Well, there’s good news and bad for Season 7, as we’ll likely be seeing more of Dickon Tarly, albeit with a very different face.
Stroma confirmed to IGN that upcoming ABC series Time After Time precluded his involvement in the seventh season of HBO’s fantasy-drama. The actor was reportedly told of his initial booking “there’s a chance this is going to be coming back,” though a lead role in his new H.G. Wells adventure understandably took precedent.
The report also notes a November Watchers on the Wall report which points toward the likelihood of Black Sails star Tom Hopper replacing Stroma in the role, given an expanded (and spoilery) presence for Dickon and his father Randyll in Season 7, to say nothing of what Samwell might think of it.
HBO had no comment on either cast or recast, as per usual.
Elsewhere of Game of Thrones Season 7, a list of directors for the year has been announced along with rumors of some major set pieces and battles, while at least a portion of filming will take place in Iceland. Harry Potter star Jim Broadbent has been confirmed for a “significant” role, along with UFC star Conor McGregor, while several notable returns have likely been revealed.
We’ll likely hear more of Game of Thrones Season 7 in the coming weeks, but will Stroma join the annals of forgotten recasts?
