‘Gilmore Girls’ Stars Question the Need for Another Revival
Gilmore Girls fans were lucky enough to get one revival, and it’s likely a second go wouldn’t carry the same urgency. Even stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel aren’t 100% certain of a need to revisit the Gilmore Girls, despite that closing twist.
Netflix bosses suggested preliminary talks were in motion for another Gilmore Girls revival, though as Graham and Bledel told TVLine, they haven’t been formally approached just yet. There’s also the matter of Graham’s new FOX pilot, and the likely pickup of creator Amy Sherman-Palladino’s Amazon drama The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, while Graham isn’t sure if the Gilmore story needs to continue regardless:
If it all existed in a vacuum, I would play that character until my dying day… Now it’s become what could we do with this story that is satisfying, that is worth continuing. I don’t know if there is a need to do more. I wouldn’t want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome.
A few months earlier, Netflix seemed to tease the possibility of another Gilmore Girls continuation, tweeting out a familiar science experiment to determine the father of Rory’s child, between Matt Czuchry’s Logan, the never-seen “Wookiee,” or Jack Carpenter’s Paul. Sherman-Palladino had initially planned to end the series on a younger Rory using the final four words to announce her pregnancy, though the moment had different impact with a 30-something character.
It’s likely that any future Gilmore plans hinge on the main stars and creators’ next gigs, but does Graham have a point, that the revival ending said it all?
