‘Gremlins’ Remake Moving Full Speed Ahead… Again

It's been a while since we reported anything new about the 'Gremlins' reboot over at Warner Bros., but apparently someone's been feeding the execs over there after midnight because sources say it's not only still happening -- it's been put on the fast track. Hide your Mogwais, the 'Gremlins' are coming. 

Last we reported, Warner Bros. had brought in 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' scribe Seth Grahame-Smith to work on the 'Gremlins' reboot. Grahame-Smith also wrote the screenplay for Tim Burton's 'Dark Shadows' and has been attached to  Burton's long-gestating 'Beetlejuice' sequel.

But as the original Joe Dante-directed 'Gremlins' was produced by Steven Spielberg, a remake can't move forward without the approval of Spielberg himself, so we haven't heard anything in quite some time. Now, Ain't It Cool reports that, in addition to that 'Goonies' sequel, WB is also putting 'Gremlins' on the fast track.

It's unclear if Grahame-Smith is still involved at this point, but the idea of rushing a remake of 'Gremlins' sounds worse than the remake itself, which will undoubtedly do away with the great puppetry work that made the original so novel and replace it with CGI creatures. Between this and a 'Goonies' sequel, the old nostalgia machine is working overtime this weekend.
