The first 'Into the Woods' trailer was strangely lacking in singing, which was an odd way to sell a movie based on one of the most beloved of all modern musicals. Thankfully, Disney has course corrected with trailer number two, which actually lets us see and hear the ensemble cast performing Stephen Sondhiem's iconic songs. It's an improvement by default.

As Disney's big Christmas Day release, there's a lot riding on the shoulders of 'Into the Woods,' but it's hard to imagine it not packing theaters across the country. After all, 'Frozen' proved that audiences still love fairy tale musicals and it's hard to imagine young girls (and their secretly cool male brethren) seeing this trailer and not demanding to go watch the movie the moment it opens. Of course, sensible adults already know that any musical featuring the talents of Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt and Chris Pine should should be on their radar. This trailer showcases each of their voices and they all sound good-to-wonderful.

Not showcased much in the trailer is Johnny Depp, who still looks terrible as the Wolf. The combination of his terrible costume (with his stupid hat) and the fact that he can't sing (remember 'Sweeney Todd'?) has us dreading his scenes. Toss in the wild card that is director Rob Marshall (will this be more 'Chicago' or 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides'?) and and you have a movie that has us nervous and excited in equal measure.

Here's the official plot synopsis for the film:

Into the Woods is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

'Into the Woods' opens in theaters on December 25, 2014.
