It's a charity event going on that gives you some laughs, and also help out a great cause. It is time for the second annual Flamingo Flocking FUNraiser for Amarillo Housing First.

The premise is simple. You make your donation, pick a friend to be on the receiving end of the flocking, and then a team of volunteers will go out and put a flock of plastic flamingos in their yard.

There will be a note left that explains the reason behind the flocking, and that with a donation the flock will be removed or they can return the "favor."

On the event page instructions to participate are:

To "give a flock", obtain Flocking Insurance, or volunteer to place Flocks, please give us a call or message us through Facebook! (806) 414-2243.

It's a lot of fun for a good cause. It raises funds for Amarillo Housing First who have a goal of housing chronically homeless individuals and families.

It reminds me a lot of one particular type of prank my friends and I used to pull on each other, much to our parents' dismay. We called it "forking." We'd buy a box of plastic forks and stake them in a friend's yard. All over their yard.

At least with this "FUNraiser" your yard gets some fun decorations, it all goes toward a good cause, and tiny bits of plastic fork don't get left in your yard.

For more information on Amarillo Housing First, be sure to check out their website AmarilloHousingFirst.org. Their programs include the Code Blue Warming Station, the HOPE project, Furniture Closet, case management; and they have volunteer opportunities available if you would like to help out in other ways.
