New Ranking Places Texas Near the Bottom for Giving Birth in the U.S.

For a lot of us, once we find a significant other, one of our go-to thoughts is, “Let’s have children.” And with that comes the question: Where do we want to live, and is it safe?WalletHub reported that, in 2026, Texas may not be the best place to have a baby. The state was ranked No. 45 out of 50, which is pretty disappointing.

Interestingly, states such as Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and one other state made up the top five places to have a baby. It really wasn’t shocking to me that Texas wasn’t ranked in the top 10. Southern hospitality is one thing, but here in Texas, I feel like we’re some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet, and some of the safest.

The Surprising Metrics That Pulled Texas Down in a Major New Birthing Report

Texas was ranked as the seventh-worst state overall, largely because it is now so expensive to have a child in the state and because of its low prevalence of health care professionals who specialize in caring for mothers and children. The fact that the cost of health care plays such a significant role in Texas’ ranking really makes you stop and think.
