‘Jurassic Park 4′ Hitting Theaters in 2014?
In these franchise-minded times, it’s surprising that it’s taken this long for Universal to finally get around to making a fourth ‘Jurassic Park’ film. The third film – which was released in 2001 – still made over $350 million worldwide. And ‘Jurassic Park 4‘ seems to be coming along, according to producer Frank Marshall.
Steve Weintraub, over at Collider, talked to Marshall who said that they should have a film in the next two years. This follows Steven Spielberg, who mentioned he had an idea for the fourth film at 2011′s Comic-Con, and the relatively recent hiring of new writers. Of course a producer is likely to say that lots of things are in motion or soon to happen that won’t, but with Universal having a mixed summer (‘Ted‘ helped, but ‘Battleship‘ and ‘Savages‘ don’t look like they’re going to make money), having a sequel to one of the studio’s biggest films would be a sweet relief.
The first film came out in 1993, which means also that the franchise could simply be rebooted. At this point, they can really do anything they want, or perhaps bring in a new actors as older versions of the kids from the first film. Why not hire Joseph Gordon-Levitt and/or Scarlett Johansson? The possibilities are endless, and it looks like we’ll see it before 2015.
