Anyone in Amarillo, Texas, will tell you that the weather is completely unpredictable. Mother Nature can't figure out what season she wants it to be. We've had summer in February. There have been snow squalls and dust storms. It makes you wonder just how crazy the weather can be in Amarillo.

This year has been insane in Amarillo where the weather is concerned. We keep bouncing back and forth from highs in the 80s to the 60s. This week, not only are we seeing warmer temperatures and heavy winds in the forecast, but there's even snow.

With it now being officially April, the question of the latest snowfall in Amarillo has come up. According to the National Weather Service, the latest snowfall in Amarillo happened in the month of May over 100 years ago.

Snow fell in Amarillo on May 5 and May 6 in 1917. The total amount recorded was over nine inches of snow. We got close to breaking the record in 2005 when almost five inches fell on May 2 and May 3.

I like taking walks. I walk almost every day. Usually, the weather doesn't matter to me. I can bundle up or put on my flip-flops and shorts. In Amarillo, you need both sets at the same time while on a single one-hour walk.

I wound up taking a walk in what I thought was a nice gentle snowfall. While on my walk, I received the first snow squall warning in history in the Texas panhandle. Then things got insane.

I don't think this year will be the year to box up any seasonal clothing. It might be the kind of year you want to have anything and everything at the ready with the weather we're having.
