Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington to Star In ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ TV Adaptation
Following the breakout success of Big Little Lies, Reese Witherspoon has teamed with Kerry Washington for Little Fires Everywhere, a limited series adaptation of Celeste Ng’s bestselling 2017 book.
The novel, which landed on multiple "Best of" year-end lists, is set in Shaker Heights, Ohio, a picturesque suburbia upended by the arrival of a rule-averse artist and her daughter. It traces the turbulent events following the adoption of a Chinese-American baby, which divides Shaker's wealthy community.
Both Witherspoon and Washington, best known for her Emmy-nominated turn as Scandal's Olivia Pope, are set to co-star and executive produce the project. Liz Tigelaar (Casual) will serve as showrunner and also pen the script. Ng will produce.
The series follows a spate of projects from Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine banner, including Wild, Gone Girl, and Big Little Lies. She's next set to lead an as-yet-untitled morning show drama with Jennifer Aniston, as well as executive produce Apple's Are You Sleeping, starring Octavia Spencer. She'll also appear in Big Little Lies' forthcoming second season, though a premiere date has not yet been announced.
Washington, meanwhile, is poised to executive produce ABC comedy Man of the House starring Alyson Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother). Her previous producing credits include HBO's acclaimed TV movie Confirmation and Facebook Watch series Five Points. Scandal's seventh and final season wraps April 5.
