The Battle For THC In Texas: Here’s What To Expect In 2025
Everyone has their eye on Austin, Texas, and what the legislature is going to be up to this session. One of the major issues being tackled by our legislators is the issue of THC in the Lone Star State. Recently, news came out that the Lt. Governor and Sen. Perry of Lubbock want to see an outright ban on all THC products in Texas. Could it happen?
Texas THC Ban 2025
In December, news came out that there was a Senate Bill in the works that would seek to outright ban all THC products in Texas. This news rocked the state, considering how many businesses sprung up around selling low-THC products after the agriculture bill passed in 2023.
According to those in support of the ban, dangerous intoxicating products are being sold all over Texas. They make it sound like there is some great evil that has taken over the state. Those not in favor of the ban, among them business owners, paint a different picture. They point to the fact that people are able to access these products and get relief from all kinds of maladies, from PTSD to insomnia.

No matter how you feel about it, there's no denying that it's big business in the Lone Star State. There are CBD shops all over the place selling lotions, tinctures, and even dog treats. Vape shops and "head shops" also sell some of these products. A ban is going to cause economic havoc in a lot of lives.
How Likely Is A Blanket THC Ban In Texas?
Reading various interviews and analyses from various news outlets leaves you wondering if the ban will actually happen. Most believe that what will happen is very strict regulations. That's a bummer for the business owners, but it's better than a ban. Others aren't sure anything will happen at all.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens with THC and legal cannabis in Texas this year. There were numerous bills filed ahead of this year's session that either seek to expand access to the state's medical marijuana program or legalize and regulate recreational cannabis.
It sounds like if there's a debate on it this legislative session, it could turn into a full-blown battle over the fate of THC in Texas.
