WT Football Announces Four Games For 2020 Season
As teams and leagues struggle to figure out Fall sports schedules, West Texas A&M University has announced they will play a 2020 Fall football schedule. WT's head football coach, Hunter Hughes, announced four of the five games that the Buffs plan to play this fall. While we may be looking at a shorter than usual season, at least we will get to enjoy some college football again.
"Our players have worked extremely hard to adjust to the “New Way” of playing, and have adjusted to the masks, symptom checks required and protocols set in place to play this fall. I am extremely proud of how these young men have handled themselves as they go about their everyday life in a unique time. They deserve this opportunity and the strong leadership provided from West Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M University System have made it possible," said coach Hughes.
The Buffs open the season on September 19 when they host Oklahoma Panhandle State at Buffalo Stadium, before facing off against two schools from the Southland Conference. They last faced OPSU on Sept. 8, 2018 in a game where Tobias Harris introduced himself to Buff Nation with a 72-yard punt return en route to a 42-7 victory.
WT will make their first trip to Nacogdoches since 1997, to face the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin. They are 2-3 all-time against SFA with their last victory coming in 1930. A game against former Lone Star Conference rival Abilene Christian is set for October 17 in Abilene. It will be the 47th meeting between the programs that have won a combined seven LSC titles. They return home to Canyon on October 31 to face off against the Stallions of North American.
The fifth and final game along with game times and ticket information will be released in the near future. There is no plans to extend the football program into the spring. While this will be a much shorter season then anyone wants, at least we will get to return to Buffalo Stadium for a little taste of football.
