UPDATE Saturday 6:15 a.m. EST: The number of reported fatalities is at least five, with another 71 injuries caused by what authorities say are a total of 17 tornadoes ripping through the Midwest on Friday.

Hopefully, you are safe and sound after last night storm that rolled through town. In the seven years that I have lived in Amarillo, this was the closest that I have come near a storm that felt that strong. It was pretty much an adventure, to say the least.

Tornado season is here and by the look of things it seems to be one of the worst seasons in quite a while.  Are you prepared?  Here are a few things you need to know to stay safe this tornado season.

What if the tornado sirens sound and you're at home with no basement or any other shelter too go to? Many homeowners are turning to this option. They are choosing to install tornado shelters in or around their house.

Tornado season is among us, and this week we have been hit hard in the area.  So close to home.  It feels so much closer when we realize that it could very easily be our town, our neighborhood, and our schools that were hit.

Officials in Oklahoma have lowered the number of deaths suffered to 24 in the massive tornado that swept through the town of Moore Monday night. Originally, the figure had been as high as 51, probably a result of double-counting.

Dozens of people including children were killed after a massive tornado tore a swath of destruction through an area outside Oklahoma City yesterday. In fact, it was such a terrible scene that local KFOR reporter Lance West broke down while reporting the news.

A Moore, OK woman was devastated when the tornado destroyed her house and killed her dog in the process.  What happens in this video is amazing and heartwarming all at the same time.

As I pulled up to the school this morning to drop E. off my heart sank as I looked at the storm clouds and heard the thunder and the lightening.  I just wanted to run after him, grab him and go home and cuddle.  Because, some of the parents of Moore didn't realize that yesterday would be the last time they were able to hug their babies and tel them that they loved them.

Tornado season just started here in the midwest and there have already been massive storms and terrible tragedies. Storm watchers have predicted this season to be one of the worst in history.
