‘The Killing’ Season 3 Wrap-Up: Mireille Enos Talks Season 4 Possibility
This past Sunday, ‘The Killing‘ season 3 came to a nerve-wracking close as the “Pied Piper” case finally unraveled, though we wouldn’t dream of spoiling the killer’s true identity (for that, try our review!). Even so, the closing moments of ‘The Killing’ season 3 portrayed a dark turn for Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos), one we may never see the end of without a season 4 renewal. So, what do Enos and the episode’s ratings have to say of a potential fourth season?
It remains to be seen if AMC will elect to keep its buzzworthy leads for another season, perhaps striking another deal with Netflix to keep costs down, but Mireille Enos herself certainly believes that Linden could find redemption for (spoiler alert!) coldly shooting Lt. Skinner dead for his heinous crimes. “My instinct is to say yes, because Veena [Sud] loves Sarah so much,” Enos tells Entertainment Weekly of returning from a dark abyss. “She must have a pathway laid out in her mind where Sarah can make her way back, but I don’t know what that path is.”
In particular, Enos looks forward to seeing how Skinner’s murder weighs on the relationship with partner Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman), given the rapport they’d recently re-established:
I can only imagine it will be very hard on the relationship. There are really only two options: They call the cops, and, if they tell the truth of what happened, Sarah does time because Skinner was clearly unarmed and it was murder. Or they cover it up. I think there’s nothing more toxic than a secret. If they cover it up together and have this shared secret, I imagine it would drive a major wedge in their friendship.
Two-hour season 3 finale “From Up Here” / “The Road to Hamelin” kept on par in the ratings as well, bringing in 1.5 million million viewers, a 9% increase over the previous year’s finale. Of course, the series itself has never quite returned to the 2.8 million viewers of its 2011 debut, but Deadline‘s sources claim early word on ‘The Killing’ season 4 renewal looks positive.
Well, what say you? Were you satisfied with ‘The Killing’ season 3, which kept its promise of wrapping up the mystery in a single season? Would you want to see the story continue in season 4, or say goodbye on such a dark note?
