Peter Craig Who Wrote ‘The Town’ Now Working On Top Gun: The Sequel

(Insert Moan Here) Really?  I didn't even know that there was a discussion about a sequel to Top Gun.  Seriously?  Can you really go back and make a sequel to one of the best movies ever?  Can you?  I'm sure it will revolve around some Navy Pilot punks that get into Top Gun and have to deal with Maverick as an instructor.  You know the same basic principle as the original Top Gun but with Tom Cruise in the Tom Skerritt role.  See there, Tom in the Tom role, its fated right?

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

The Town writer Peter Craig has been tapped to pen Top Gun 2 for Paramount, THR has confirmed.

Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Skydance Productions will produce the sequel to the 1986 Tom Cruise hit.

Cruise has said that he'd like to make a sequel to Top Gun

The only way I think I could handle a Top Gun Sequel is to bring back most of the original cast, like Val Kilmer, not the chunky Val Kilmer that we know today, but an older svelte Kilmer who can bring back Ice Man.  We all know that Anthony Edwards won't be back because well, Goose bit it in the original.

Now on for some new casting, we have all heard Taylor Lautner from The Twilight Movies is the "new" Tom Cruise, well why not cast him as one of the Navy Punk pilots.
