The fitness craze was in full swing with the help of Jane Fonda's successful workout videos and pop music was reflecting the times. Plus with MTV pumping out videos 24/7 you couldn't help but get caught up in the visual aspect of songs you heard on the radio.

The top 5 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 this week had a little bit of everything-including Rocker Rod Stewards' poppy "Young Turks" (#5), Hall & Oates "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" (#4), Earth, Wind & Fire with the dance hit, "Let's Groove" (#3) and a power ballad from rock group Foreigner, "Waiting for a Girl Like You" (#2).

We said goodbye to it  in 1981 and kicked off the new year with it in 1982. This song stayed at #1 for 10 weeks in a row. Because of this, it would become the biggest song of the 1980's.

Up to this point, the only other song with a longer run at #1 was "Hound Dog" by Elvis Presley.

Let's pull up the leg warmers, strap on the head band and get "Physical" with the #1 song this week in 1982 from Olivia Newton-John.
